Areas moves into Colombia with a 10 Year Contract at El Dorado Airport

Areas, the Food & Beverage and Travel Retail leader with international headquarters in Barcelona, will begin operations at El Dorado International Airport (Bogotá, Colombia) with a 10-year contract to manage 8 outlets including brands such as Novecento, Carl’s Jr., Juan Valdez, and Deli&Cia. The company will enter the Colombian market through the OPAIN consortium tasked with modernizing the airport.

Areas will be responsible for revamping and managing these eight outlets that will generate 230 jobs and an estimated $US14 million in sales per year. The company will invest in renovating a 20,000 sq ft food and beverage area scheduled to open for summer 2017. The investment will go into reforming the infrastructure in the form of better equipping the premises, the furniture, the communication elements, and the general design of the outlets.

Areas CEO for Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, Oscar Vela, said: “We are very happy to move into Colombia, one of the countries with the greatest potential in Latin America. This project will give us a strong presence at El Dorado Airport, the third-largest by passenger traffic in Latin America. The contract will also drive a solid base in Colombia that we can leverage into growth across other airports throughout the country. We want Colombia to become a core market for us in Latin America”.

Leader in Spain and France, Areas currently operates in 13 countries. With this contract, the company will operate in a new country, shore up its presence in Latin America, and bolster its leadership position in the international Food & Beverage and Travel Retail market.
