Areas consolidates its leadership at Palma de Mallorca airport with 70% of the food & beverage offering now under its management

Areas, the third largest operator in the world and the leader in Spain in Food & Beverage and Travel Retail, has taken over the management of 70% of the gastronomic offering at the Majorcan airport. Specifically, Areas has been awarded 6 of the 12 lots that were put out to tender, each for contracts of 3 and 8 years, which include 23 of the 33 tendered outlets and a workforce of more than 400 employees.

The company will roll out a quality and varied gastronomic offering at Palma de Mallorca airport which will include international brands such as the world’s leading burger restaurant Burger King, the international coffee shop Paul, the Carlsberg and Warsteiner beer halls or the Grab&Go Deli&Cia; nationally recognized brands such as the casual food restaurant MásQMenos or the sandwich bar Rodilla, and brands with local flavour such as Exploring The World, under the guidance of Majorcan chef Miquel Calent, and a large food market which will operate under the name StrEAT and will include local brands such as La Rosa vermouth bar, El Diablito pizzeria and Forn d’Es Pont bakery. As well as these outlets, the company already manages all the vending machines at the airport.

In the airport sector, Areas is the main operator in four of the five largest Spanish airports by volume of passengers, including Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport, where it carried out the largest food and beverage renovation seen in any Spanish airport with 50 establishments and 26 brands between 2013 and 2015, Alicante-Elche airport, with a recent concession of 8 new establishments, and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport, in which it manages a total of 29 outlets, in addition to the aforementioned Palma de Mallorca airport.
